Monitoring Child Safeguarding Practice

The main object for which Coimirce was established is to provide advice, services and assistance to any constituent or constituents as provided for in the Memorandum and Articles of Association in furtherance of the development of the safeguarding of children within the Roman Catholic Church on the island of Ireland and to monitor their compliance with legislation, policy and best practice and to report upon activities of Coimirce and the cooperation which it receives in respect of such activities to the extent that such activities are always and in all respects carried out with due regard to the doctrines and applicable Canon Law of the Roman Catholic Church.

Practice is monitored through:

  • Notification of all allegations, suspicions, knowledge and concerns (against clerics and religious) to the National Board.
  • Reviews of Child Safeguarding practice – link to review section
  • Reviewing and reporting on the management of complaints about how allegations have been responded to.
  • Notification of the completion of annual child safeguarding audits.
  • Reporting annually on all activities above
