Introduction
Many critical issues impact children and young people in Ireland today, poverty, mental health concerns, social media and technology, housing shortages to name a few. The issues are typically interconnected and can affect a child’s wellbeing, access to education and opportunities. While poverty does not equate to neglect it is certainly a risk factor that can create challenging circumstances which may make it difficult for parents to address children’s needs.
Within the NBSCCCI we provide training resources to the Church around creating and supporting safe environments for children and young people within the children’s ministry. We guide those attending training to be able to recognize and respond appropriately to abuse situations, however children and young people are now experiencing much different challenges than even a couple of years ago.
The alertness of adults in connecting with children and young people, combined with education and support, can be a proactive step in building knowledge and resilience in children and young people. Through this section of the website we hope to sign post the reader to relevant excellent resources and tools to support and empower you to be knowledgable on current issues for children and young people.
