An overview report by the NBSCCCI of the implementation of recommendations by those reviewed in the fourth tranche of Safeguarding Reviews – 18th December  2014

In December 2013 the following dioceses and religious orders publicly produced their safeguarding review reports:

The Archdioceses of Armagh and Cashel and Emly; the Dioceses of Achonry; Down and Connor; Kerry and Ossory;

St Patrick’s Missionary Society, Kiltegan and the Congregation of Christian Brothers

At the request of NBSCCCI, each of the Church Authorities have submitted an update report on the implementation of the recommendations made by the reviewers, ten months after the publication of their reports.

It is important to point out that this process of informing the Board about progress in relation to implementing the recommendation is not a “re-review” and the Board has not revisited to conduct further fieldwork and is therefore not in a position to offer a critique of the work undertaken by each Church Authority.

Having said that, since the reviews were published there has been significant contact between each of the Church Authorities and the CEO of the National Board to share work in progress.  It is very evident from these contacts and from the submissions made in writing that serious application to implementing the recommendations has taken place.  It is gratifying to report that there is really good work going on within and across Dioceses and Religious Congregations in the interests of safeguarding children, improving practice and responding to the recommendations made by the Board.
